Things you should be doing after 25
So, I figured at my age, just under 30 what are the things that a person over 24 needs to get right or rather what are the things we should be doing before we hit the big 30. Don’t worry, if you not doing any of the things that I’ve listed below it’s alright, you’ll catch on later or never hahaha…but you can’t die without ticking one of these boxes. I mean, make your parents proud and at least tick one of these boxes.
So, if you are above 25, here are some things you should be
doing after 25:
· You need to know if you either book smart or street smart and capitalize on either one: This is pretty simple and straight forward. You either went to school and have a degree or certificate and you ended up part of the system and that’s how you make your money or you either smart and did not necessarily go to school and you know to hustle for your money, your either an entrepreneur or a hustler but at the end of the day you are able to make a quick buck. Just know where tour strengths lie.
· Learn something new: My gran once said to me, you never stop learning and that’s true. We are living in a different era where trends are changing as often as we change our underwear. Learn something, it could be a skill, it could be some general knowledge, something you read about on google or something you see on national geographic, read a book on emotional intelligence, learn about cryptocurrency. Whatever it is, learn something. Not only for the next person but for yourself. I think it would be pretty cool to have a kid one day and for him/her to think I’m a walking encyclopedia while she/she is still young to know anything. Also, having knowledge about something is how you start building relationships. You walk into a room and have a conversation about everything and nothing and you’ll learn something, trust me.
· Do something on a weekend: A month on average has 4 weekends, make at least 2 of the 4 weekends count. You can’t always be chilling at home and Netflix or Hulu. No babe, you need to do something on weekends. Weekends were meant for your twenties. You either party, get drunk, meet up with friends, go to an amusement park. Do something, create memories, create stories to tell in future. You don’t want to be that person at the office on Monday mornings when you are asked what you got up to and you like “Nah, you know, the usual, just chilling” RED FLAG!, NO LIFE!. Go hiking, take a walk, do some window shopping, do art, go gardening, read, visit the zoo, go speed-dating, there’s literally a million things to do under the sun on a weekend. Like I said, you don’t have to do something every weekend, maybe some weekends.
· Know your politics: Well…well…you need to, you must, you got to…you are an adult now and you need to know what’s happening in your country and why it’s happening, the background of certain historic events and the impact those events have on the citizens. It’s one of things about growing up that you need to do, I guess. You need to vote, you need understand why you are voting, you need to have an idea on the trade laws and sanctions between the western country’s vs the eastern countries vs the middle east countries vs Africa. Everyone knows about the 9/11 but do we really know what lead to it and what were consequences of it besides what the media feeds us. Politics are part of our everyday life. They affect literally everything around you and they play a huge part of the laws that govern u
· Get your finances in order: You saw this coming didn’t you?…yep. I believe if you get your finances in order in your twenties, then you would pretty much live your 40s/50s comfortably, with minimal financial stress. You should have savings or start working towards your savings and investments and you should be living within your means. In your twenties you should have some basic understanding on principles of assets vs liabilities. In your twenties you should be checking that you are getting the most for your money’s worth.
· Do
it now: If you really want it, do
it. If it’s a goal, start working on it now. When you were a teen you did say
“when I grow up, I will…” and guess what, you are grown up now and you
literally can’t afford to keep postponing and procrastinating. If COVID taught
us anything then it would be that there will never be a better time than now. Do
it now, and if things don’t turn out the way you would have wanted them to,
you’ll just to have to look where you went wrong and start again until you get it right. No one said
there was a manual on being a parent, or an entrepreneur or starting something.
That’s the beauty of it I guess. Just start with it.
Happy Reading 😉
