5 Things I Learned About Starting a Side Hustle (And Why It’s Not for Everyone)

Starting a side hustle is often seen as a great way to earn extra income, pursue a passion, or even eventually transition to full-time self-employment. However, the reality of balancing a side hustle with other commitments is more challenging than it might seem. Through my own experiences, I’ve learned some important lessons that I believe everyone should consider before jumping into the world of side hustles. Here are five key takeaways, along with why I think a side hustle isn’t for everyone. 1.Time Management Is Tougher Than It Looks One of the biggest challenges of starting a side hustle is managing your time effectively. Balancing your day job, personal life, and side hustle can quickly become overwhelming. I found myself working late nights and weekends, often sacrificing sleep and social activities. The excitement of having something of your own can make it easy to push yourself too hard, but this can lead to burnout. Not everyone has the ability—or the desire—to maintain such a...

30 things to do before 30

Image
I’m nearing my 30s and quiet honestly I cannot wait to start this next chapter of my life. If there’s anything I’ve learnt about growing older and smarter, it would be to remain calm and that it’s okay to not have it all figured out. I think when I was in my late teens I wanted to graduate, get a high paying job, and be married by 25 and have 2 kids by 30 and guess what...that is not how my life turned out, far from it even. One of the lessons that I’m learning is that I cannot be in control of everything and therefore sometimes I can be prepare as much as I want to you but somethings in life I just cannot control. As I approach the third level of my life, here some of things that I want to share with you that I would like to do before I reach my dirty thirty.... Oh, by the way I’m turning the big 30 next year in November, please reach out and ask me in December if these were all ticked off. Here some 30 things to do before I reach 30 1.        Skyd...

Things you should be doing after 25

Image
We all know that once you make it past 24, there’s that voice inside that says that Chile, you need to get your s**t together. There are expectations you have for yourself right? and there’s “societal expectations”. Like where’s your kid? When are you having another kid? You still leaving with your parents? Why are you a full-time student at your age? When are you planning on getting married? …relax, we are all in the same boat… well not really, we are in the same sea but different boats with the same challenges at different frequencies and different wavelengths. So, I figured at my age, just under 30 what are the things that a person over 24 needs to get right or rather what are the things we should be doing before we hit the big 30. Don’t worry, if you not doing any of the things that I’ve listed below it’s alright, you’ll catch on later or never hahaha…but you can’t die without ticking one of these boxes. I mean, make your parents proud and at least tick one of these boxes. So, ...

Polyandry…Polyamory...Yes?...No?...Maybe?...Not yet?...

Image
The world is coming to an end! Jokingly so… Not so long ago there was a motion tabled for South African women to have the option to marry more than one husband, polyandry is on the cards for South Africa…blasphemy! some would suggest. I was inclined to the idea of having more than one partner and by my natural human instinct I then went and seeked validation, validation from my male counter parts asking them what they thought and it’s funny how I went straight to my male friends instead of my female friends for validation of a choice that perhaps would give me some level of freedom to do what they have been doing all along and some of them secretly so…But they cheat, it’s never polyandry or polyamorous, they never ask for consent. Anyway 7 out of the 9 thought I was crazy and it’s the most stupid thing they’ve heard me say,   mind you when I brought up the idea they quickly brushed it off and the conversation went straight from being about my thoughts to “If I were to ...

Growing your career has never been so easy...

For a person working a 9 to 5, we all know that come February/March we need to submit our development goals. Depending on the organization you work for and your manager this could be either a tick box exercise or this could actually determine where you are headed in your career.  Career development goals was just another to do exercise for me with my previous employer because we were given 2 weeks to think about our goals and populate this on workday or worst case scenario, I had to submit those in 24 hours like WTF. But anyway, I managed to do that, and I guess I didn’t stay long in that organization. What does it really mean to build you career and have you actually thought about this? or as long as you progressing in your career, not sure where you going though but as long as you moving forward and the money is good then everything else is good right? Nah Buddy, then you are in a different hood not adulthood. So, I found it fitting to share this since I literally just submit...

Unconventional Ways To Keep Your Mental Health In Check...and Be Happy

Life happens…work happens…family happens. You just find yourself in a vicious cycle of doing things that need to be done to get to the next thing and how to avoid this in order to save here and there and so it goes. It’s life…some say it’s a trap, some say it’s a journey of self-discovery and exploring warra warra whichever you look at it, it all comes down to us being part of a cycle to accomplish something. So, I’m currently on a one-week annual leave because I need a break, because I need to recoup, re-look and refocus a bit. Whenever I take leave during the year, it’s normally to check myself or something in my life could be health, finances, or emotional check-in. Haven’t taken time out for a vacation in a while though but that will happen in winter, no worries. Having spoken to some ex-colleagues of mine, I hear fatigue is making the rounds again and we still on the first quarter of the year. The downside of working from home…some people haven’t found the balance of overworki...
