How To Travel Smart

We are on Level 1 of Lockdown in South Africa and guess what…we can now travel both locally and internationally, I think international travel is still reserved for business but I do stand corrected. The tourism industry was badly affected by this pandemic and I’m pretty sure that from now up until mid next year perhaps there will be discounts and promotions on traveling for the obvious reasons. I think if you have some extra coins stashed away somewhere you should consider traveling while we still dealing with the aftermath of this pandemic. Rather die having travelled than not having had the chance to right?

Being someone that loves to travel and yet I don’t like spending money unnecessarily I thought I would share some tips on how to travel without breaking bank.

1.   Always book a year before in advance, in that you budget properly you save costs and you have enough time to build your itinerary list. It just becomes easy on the pocket when you plan ahead

2. Travel on a Tuesday…for some reason flight tickets are cheaper when you travel on a Tuesday compared to the other days. My guess would be that people hardly travel on a Tuesday. Most people travel either on a Friday or Monday or Wednesday.

3.    You should consider traveling to countries that have a lower currency than your country or atleast the same exchange rate. In that way you either go to that country “loaded” or you know exactly what cost you are working with and you confuse yourself with the exchange rates. But keep in mind even though you will be traveling to another country, you are a tourist therefore when you buy souvenirs, they can be too expensive and put you off budget. Here are some countries that have a similar or lower exchange to South Africa:

·       Tanzania, Mozambique, Thailand, Czech Republic, Russia, Mauritius, Seoul, Chile, Mexico, Russia, India, Hungary there are others but these are just a few.

       4. Another tip is when it comes to food. Try and have your lunch meals from the local street food market. Local street food in most countries is cheap, high carb content and therefore filling. So instead of eating 3 meals a day you end up eating 2 big meals because of the quantity of the food.

      5. I’ve lost also come to realize that accommodation does not really matter unless you are traveling for luxury and are OCD. If you love traveling and you are all about being in the heart of the city and understanding the culture and exploring it. It’s recommended that you rather opt for a 2 star hotel than a 5 star hotel. There are some 2 star accommodation that offer star services

The other things that I have not mentioned, I believe would be the obvious in terms of what to bring with when you travel. It’s cheaper for group bookings that it is for 3 people and so forth and also it’s cheaper to book at an independent hotel than the popular hotel chains. And lastly...research, research, research.

This post will be followed with travel clubs and holiday clubs that you can sign up for to travel anywhere and anytime.
