Travel Light...Travel Cheap....Travel On Discount

Now…let’s see what options you have for traveling.

Following up from my previous post regarding traveling, I also did some research and thought that it would be fitting that I share with you some of the holiday clubs and travel clubs that one can sign up for and get to travel on discounts or points.

Now, what you need to now is that there’s a difference between a travel club and a holiday club…yeah I didn’t know either. So, when you sign up for a travel club you get to travel to the various holiday destinations, hotels, resorts whatever-you-want-to-call-it on a discounted price. The discounts are sponsored by the vendors/partners that are within the affiliated “group” and you pay for a portion towards your trip.

A holiday club on the other hands works on a points system. You purchase a specific number of points which are then redeemed for any of the vacation options you have available each year. Like in any industry there are different holiday and travel clubs, some have more benefits than the others. I would recommend though that you read the reviews, and do you own research regarding which option(s) and which vendor works best for you and your pocket.

The below organizations are ones that you can sign up for booking holidays on a discount.

Ø Asambe - Asambe is a travel club formalized through a membership programme You basically put away a fixed amount of money every month which will be translated into points. Once you have saved enough points to go on holiday you can then redeem these points for a holiday of your choice. How much you put away depends on the type of holiday you want and how much you can afford. The minimum amount that you can start paying on a monthly is R200. The have also formed partnerships with various service providers which range from hotels, car rentals, buses, flight companies which allow you to use their service on a discount.

Ø  Club Travel - With these guys, you can pay from as little as R500 and you can decide how long you want to pay it for obviously depending on how much your vacation will cost. Clients can choose to pay for their holiday in 2 or 11 monthly instalments. This is how they work, slightly different from their competitors. You first choose your preferred travel package and then submit a completed enquiry form. Once you accept the quote submitted to you then you can start paying for your holiday. Club travel, I need to add is owned by travelstart.

Ø  Off Beat  -  This particular holiday club caters for SAPS members retired members or civilians on the SAPS payroll. Members pay the accommodation at resorts, luxury chalets or hotels at a discount price. Member are only allowed to book for their immediate family specific to the units booked of course. This club is more “restricted” than the other clubs but you read about the history of the club you will understand why.

Ø  First Leisure - This is the most popular of them all, they cater for a wide of clients from private to luxury to business to the average Joe right. They run a rewards programme and also offer discounts on accommodation, travel, cruises and online shopping when you sign you with them. They run promotions everything month which are really good bargains if you want to be spontaneous on a weekend.

Ø  Flexibreaks -  Flexibreaks prides itself with the “No points-no full rates- on limits” slogan. You can make use of their services by making a minimum yearly fee of as little as R999 and once of R150 admin fee. With discounts on buses, sea cruises, timeshare, flights, car hire, similar to their competitors.

Ø  Leisure Life Travel Club  -  With Leisure Life, you do pay a once-off membership fee and then pay according to the points allocation of your desired holiday accommodation through Leisure Life.  You have flexibility when it comes to choosing length of stay as well as location. You can also rent out your accommodation should you wish to do so.

Pssssh

·       Like most services that are being offered by the above groups, you need to check the monthly fees and admin charges that are being charged by these organizations because ultimately you want to pay less for the overall travel experience and not deal with costly charges.

·       Check the reviews of your choice of a travel/holiday club

·       Read the fine print of the quotes or contracts that you will be signing.

·       The are ombudsman for tourism and the travel agency, should you feel at any point that your services provider did not live up to the agreement and you would like them to account.

HAPPY TRAVEL ✈
