Need A Side Hustle?…What For ?

I'm pretty sure that you have read or heard about people venturing into side hustles or an additional source of income somehow. Some are making an income from Youtube , Instagram, being ghost writers and so forth.


It is true that an average person cannot rely solely on one income, because the truth of the matter is that you hardly find an employer that is willing to pay you what you deserve…highly unlucky unless you are one of the very lucky few. Also people’s lifestyles cannot be sustained on just one income in this day and era.


For those that are looking into having an additional income, I always say that you need to ask yourself why you want an additional income. Do you really need it or is it just something you would like to have?. Once you have answered the why question, it then becomes easy for you to understand the purpose and value of what you will be doing.


Perhaps you may have heard about the 5 WHYs. So here’s how you’ll know why you need a side hustle and if you will sustain that side hustle or not or vise verse.

You need to ask yourself the 5 why’s in order to fully understand why you need the additional income.

 

Here’s an example with me.

1st why – why do I need an additional income ? To pay off my bond/mortgage sooner and live comfortably

2nd why – why ? In order to have an asset and supplement my lifestyle needs

3rd why – why? To be happy and have less financial stress?

4th why – why ? If I’m happy and stress free I’ll be able to do what I love

5th why – why ? To just be happy and share some of the little that I have with those that don’t have (be it knowledge or material things).


Therefore I need a second income to do more of what will make me happy, therefore having an additional to me would mean freezing up all the unnecessary stress of not getting paid enough in order to provide for my family and my lifestyle. In a way, a second income will indirectly buy me happiness and that’s the reason why I need an additional income.


Now the thing that people don’t think about or comprehend is that a secondary income can either be you making money from your hobby or something you want to venture into for money and you will need to be strategic about it. You have to do the research, see what other people are doing and how you can be better or even different. I believe this is the part where you will need to spend most of your resources on.


With the technology in the palm of your hands, all you will need to sacrifice is perhaps your time and data. If you do not have a clear and direct answer as to why you need a side hustle then that side hustle is worth nothing but merely a hobby or something that consumes your time.
